General

Where do I buy one?
Is Moat available for iPhone and Android?
Yes it is! Visit the app store (iOS) or Play Store (Android) to download it today!
Can I access Moat remotely and receive alerts from anywhere?

Moat uses bluetooth, which means it needs to be in range (100 meters in ideal circumstances) of your phone to receive new data and trigger alerts. For more information about the range of the device see the “Technical Info” section below.

While you are away, Moat stores your temperature and humidity data onboard, and then syncs with your phone when you return. This mean that even though alerts will not trigger, you still get to keep an eye on your environment all day long.

UPDATE: We are currently working on a Wifi gateway which will pair with your devices so that you can receive alerts from anywhere in the world. If you would like to be notified when this is available, please email us at info@moat-tech.com and let us know!

Can Moat be used outdoors?
Yes!…and no. Like most humidity sensors, Moat is not waterproof. In other words, if you leave it in the rain, or take it for a swim, it will probably break. But as long as you keep it out of direct exposure to water, you should be ok leaving it outside. In fact, many of our customers already do!
Can Moat be moved around to different locations?

Absolutely!  One of the benefits of being battery operated and having such a slim profile is that it can easily be moved from room to room.  You can use it in the nursery one day and your humidor the next.

Technical Info

Where do I buy one?
How long does the battery last?
Moat’s battery lasts for 1 year or more in most cases. Under normal circumstances it can last even longer than a year, but if it is stored in extremely cold locations (such as a freezer) the battery life can be less than a year.
What type of Battery does Moat use?

Moat S1 – CR2477 (3V) lithium cell battery

Moat S2 – CR2450 (3V) lithium cell battery

When the included battery eventually runs out of juice, it can easily be replaced with this standard battery which you can purchase from Amazon or wherever you prefer.

How many devices can I pair at once?
If you find out, let us know 😉 Technically we haven’t reached the limit yet ourselves, so we want to say unlimited. However, for peak performance we recommend pairing a maximum of 30 devices to one phone.
What is Moat's range of operation?
This is a somewhat complicated answer, because it is highly dependent on the environment you place the device in, and the phone you are pairing it to. Under ideal conditions (no obstructions or interference) Moat S1 has a max range of 100 feet and the S2 has a max range of about 400 feet. Every house is different, but for an average sized and constructed home you should be able to place the device just about anywhere and stay in range as long as you (and your phone) are home.

PLEASE NOTE:If you are using Moat in a freezer, or something similar, the range will likely be reduced. In most cases it will still function just fine, but metal housings can create interference.
